Soma Bay: Cairo & Giza Pyramids, Museum & Nile Boat Trip
Step off the Soma Bay peninsula for one full day in Cairo: the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum and a slow cruise on the Nile, all with your own Egyptologist to bring it alive.
Overview
Soma Bay is built to keep you in โ a whole peninsula of beach, golf and still water with no particular reason to leave. This is the one reason. Everyone who comes to Egypt carries a picture of the Pyramids in their head long before they arrive, and this is the day you go and stand inside it. While the resort is still dark, an air-conditioned vehicle collects you and heads off the peninsula, out across the desert on the long road north to Cairo.
The capital takes its time to reveal itself. Your Egyptologist meets you and leads you through the Egyptian Museum, room by room, past the gold and the glass and the small human things four thousand years old that make the pharaohs suddenly real. Then the day loosens: you board a boat and let the Nile carry you a while, the river that has done the work of keeping Egypt alive since long before any of this was built, the city sliding by on both banks.
And then the Pyramids, which no photograph has ever managed to hold. The Great Pyramid of Khufu stands over you like a small mountain made by hand, every block hauled and set forty-five centuries before you were born and never surpassed for thousands of years. It is the last of the seven wonders the ancient world named โ the only one left to walk up to, crane your neck at and touch. The Sphinx waits nearby, and in the Valley Temple you stand among granite that has not shifted since before writing itself was invented.
The road back to Soma Bay is long, and you will spend it somewhere between worn out and quietly amazed. The peninsula will feel small when you return to it โ comfortable, but small โ because you will have spent the day at the scale of the Pyramids. Everyone else will come home from Egypt talking about the sea. You will talk about the day you stood beneath the oldest wonder still standing on Earth.
